A Toast to Beer Deregulation

This Saturday marks the 29th anniversary of the deregulation of home brewing by President Jimmy Carter. While its effect is often overstated, this law did help promote the rapid increase in the number of craft breweries-small, independent beer producers-and create today's vibrant beer industry.  Two other legislative measures played a more significant role in the growth of craft breweries and the increase in choice, innovation, and quality of American beer since the 1970s.
